Privacy Policy

Effective 4 August 2026 · applies to the PawParley iOS app and pawparley.com

The short version

  • Every recording is analysed on your phone. Audio is never uploaded, never sent to a server, and never used to train anything.
  • There is no account. No email address, no sign-in, no profile.
  • We don't collect personal data. PawParley's App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.
  • No advertising and no tracking. There is no ad network, no analytics SDK and no cross-app tracking in the app.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple, with RevenueCat validating receipts on our behalf. Neither we nor RevenueCat receives your name, email address or card details.

1. Who we are

PawParley (“PawParley”, “we”, “us”) is an independently developed iOS app, published on the App Store as PawParley: Cat & Dog Sounds (bundle identifier com.yageloshri.pawparley). This policy covers the app and this website.

For anything to do with privacy, write to hello@pawparley.com.

Before launch: the publisher's registered legal name and postal address must be inserted here. UK GDPR and the GDPR both require a data controller to identify itself, and the App Store review team checks that the policy names a real publisher.

2. What we collect

Nothing that identifies you.

PawParley has no account system, no sign-in, no user profile and no server of our own. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, advertising identifier, or a device identifier that we could use to recognise you. We do not build a profile of you and we could not, because we hold nothing to build one from.

Everything the app creates — your pet's name, its diary entries, the readings and measurements it produces, your whistle presets — is written to the app's private storage on your own device. It stays there. Deleting PawParley deletes all of it.

3. Your recordings

This is the part that matters most, so we'll be exact about it.

When you hold the record button, the app captures a few seconds of audio through the microphone and analyses it entirely on your iPhone. The sound-identification model is bundled inside the app itself; it does not call out to anything. The signal processing that produces the measurements — duration, pitch contour, modulation, harmonics-to-noise ratio, the gaps between bursts — also runs locally.

No recording ever leaves your phone. We do not upload audio. We do not stream audio. We do not keep a copy on any server, because there is no server. We do not use your recordings to train or improve any model, ours or anyone else's.

Audio captured for a reading is discarded once the reading is produced, unless you choose to save that entry to the diary — in which case it is stored locally, on your device, under your control, and can be deleted from within the app at any time.

4. Microphone permission

iOS will ask for microphone access the first time you use the sound reader. We use that permission for one purpose: capturing the few seconds of audio you have asked the app to analyse. The app does not listen in the background, does not record when you are not holding the button, and does not use the microphone for any other feature.

You can withdraw the permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, or in Settings → PawParley. The whistle, the clicker, the sound library and your existing diary all keep working without it.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see and never receive your name, billing address, card number or Apple ID. Apple's handling of your payment is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We use RevenueCat, Inc. as a processor to validate App Store receipts, work out whether a subscription is active, and let you restore a purchase on a new device. To do that, the RevenueCat SDK inside the app sends the App Store transaction receipt together with a randomly generated identifier that the app creates for itself, plus basic technical information such as the app version, device model and country of the storefront. That identifier is not your Apple ID and is not linked to your name or email address; we cannot use it to work out who you are.

RevenueCat's own handling of that data is described in the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. We have no other processors.

6. What we never do

  • No advertising. There is no ad network in the app and no ad identifier is read. You will not see an App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track.
  • No third-party analytics. There is no analytics or attribution SDK collecting your behaviour in the app.
  • No selling or sharing of data. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or trade it in any form.
  • No data brokers, no marketing lists.

Separately from us, Apple provides developers with aggregated App Store analytics and crash reports — only if you have chosen to share analytics with developers in your iOS settings. That information reaches us already grouped and anonymised, and we cannot identify an individual from it. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

7. If you email us

If you write to hello@pawparley.com we will obviously have your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to answer you and for nothing else — no newsletter, no marketing, no list. Support correspondence is deleted once the matter is resolved and no longer needed, and in any case within 24 months.

8. Children

PawParley is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children. If you believe a child has somehow provided us with personal information through a support email, write to us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights in the UK and the EU

Where the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR applies, the publisher of PawParley is the data controller for the very limited processing described above.

What we process, and why

Purchase validation
Transaction receipts and an app-generated identifier, processed to give you the subscription you paid for. Legal basis: performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
Support correspondence
Your email address and the contents of your message, processed so we can reply. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) in running a supportable product.

Your recordings are not in this list, because they are never transmitted to us and we never hold them.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to your personal data, its correction or erasure, restriction of processing, portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise any of them, email hello@pawparley.com.

In practice, because we hold almost nothing and nothing that names you, we usually cannot identify you from the app alone — which means we may not be able to act on a request unless you can point us at the correspondence or transaction it concerns. That is a consequence of collecting so little, not an attempt to avoid the obligation.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, the authority in your country of residence.

International transfers

RevenueCat and Apple are US-headquartered and may process the limited purchase data described above outside the UK and EEA. Those transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, as set out in each provider's own terms.

10. Your rights in California

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA:

  • Categories of personal information collected in the past 12 months: none. PawParley collects no personal information from users of the app.
  • Sold or shared: none. We have never sold personal information and have never shared it for cross-context behavioural advertising — including for consumers we know to be under 16.
  • Sensitive personal information: none is collected or used. Audio from your microphone is processed on your own device and is never received by us.

You have the right to know, to delete, to correct, to opt out of sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Because we hold no personal information, there is nothing to disclose or delete, but you are welcome to make a request at hello@pawparley.com and we will confirm that in writing. We do not need a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link because we do neither.

11. Security and retention

The strongest security measure here is architectural: data we never collect cannot be leaked, subpoenaed or breached. Your recordings, diary and settings live in your iPhone's app sandbox, protected by iOS file-level encryption and your device passcode. Traffic between the app and the App Store or RevenueCat is encrypted in transit.

Purchase records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed to service the subscription and meet their legal and tax obligations. Support email is retained as described in section 7. We retain nothing else.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top and, where the change is significant, say so in the app's release notes. We will never make a change that quietly starts collecting your recordings — if that ever became necessary it would be an explicit, opt-in choice presented to you in the app.
